Research Officer (Genome Curation)
Reporting to the Head of Operations (Scientific Branch), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and managing genome curation platform for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data in the Scientific Branch
- Assist in developing processes or models for variant prioritisation
- Assist in presentation of results by generating plots and figures
- Assist in curation and interpretation of genome sequencing results using current international standards
- Participate in research and development
- Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers
Requirements:
We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Research Officer (Genome Curation) who possesses:
- A master’s degree or above in biological sciences or computer science, with formal training in computer science either at the undergraduate or master’s level.
- Knowledge in next-generation sequencing (NGS) and its data formats, with at least 1 year of experience in analysing NGS data.
- Experience in coding in Python or R, and preferably data-wrangling skills such as extracting information from VCF files and manipulating data structures.
- Preferably proven ability in graphical visualisation.
- Preferably experience in analysis of cancer genomes, single-cell sequencing and long-read sequencing data.
- Preferably with experience in genome research resulting in publications in international peer-review journals
- Good written Chinese and English and fluency in spoken Cantonese; strong written English is an advantage.

- Conduct research, implement, and optimise algorithms related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in genomics projects.
- Lead a team of engineers to develop new AI methods for genome curation, genetic variant interpretation, and clinical genomics applications.
- Support other researchers in conducting efficient, high-quality, and high-performance research studies.
- Research and implement cutting-edge technologies in AI and build deep learning platforms to support HKGI’s other business areas.

Requirements:
- A doctorate degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, or related fields.
- Proficiency in Python and C++, with expertise in programming in a Linux environment and developing/maintaining open-source scientific software.

Software Engineer (Genomics AI)
As part of HKGI’s genome curation platform development, we are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Software Engineer (Genomics AI). The incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and optimise algorithms related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in genomics projects.
- Develop AI methods for genome curation, genetic variant interpretation, and clinical genomics applications.
- Complete training sample production, data cleansing, model tuning, training deployment, algorithm testing and optimisation.
- Regularly perform application model optimisation training and write performance optimisation result reports.
- Actively optimise performance scheduling of models to address high concurrency, limited graphics memory, and other issues.
- Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree or above in computer science, software engineering, electronics, communications, or related fields.
- Proficiency in C++, Python, R, and mastery of at least one programming language. Experience programming in a Linux environment is preferred. Familiarity with open-source libraries like NumPy is a plus.
- At least two years of relevant experience in AI research/industry, including leading or participating in the entire lifecycle of AI research and development projects.
- Experience in developing AI projects based on TensorFlow/PyTorch, including training and inference parameter tuning. Practical experience in performance tuning is desirable.
- Familiarity with basic principles and structures of commonly used deep neural network models such as CNN, RNN, LSTM, etc.
- Proficiency in data mining methods, exploratory data analysis, and data cleansing techniques.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage systems and networks mostly in the AWS Cloud environment, including design, implementation, monitoring, capacity management, security operations, and support
- Monitor system performance and ensure Service Level Agreements are consistently met
- Collaborate with vendors on project implementation to ensure cloud-based applications are optimised for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency

Associate Medical Technologist reports to Medical Technologist
Medical Technologist reports to Lead Scientist I (Genome Diagnostics and Precision Health)
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily and routine laboratory operations, equipment maintenance and calibration
- Process and analyse clinical specimens by molecular testing methods following standard operating procedures (SOP)
- Extract DNA/RNA from clinical tissue samples (e.g., whole blood, buccal swab, saliva, tumour, and normal tissues) and perform cell culture work
- Conduct quality control (QC), library preparation and operate next / third generation sequencing systems, laboratory equipment and analysers
- Assist in implementing QC, documentation, internal audit and external quality assurance programmes to meet the accreditation standards
- Aid in developing new protocols and evaluating new sequencing technologies

Additional Duties for Medical Technologist
- Monitor laboratory daily operations, workload, quality, and quantity for HKGP
