Senior Research Assistant (Research)

Reporting to the Head of Operations (Scientific Branch), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting multi-level implementation research to address key issues in service delivery within the Hong Kong Genome Project (HKGP)
  • Support data collection and cleaning, statistical data analysis, conduct literature search and review, prepare project proposals and presentation materials, and draft reports and manuscripts, particularly focusing on health outcomes, psychosocial outcomes, and health economics analyses
  • Collaborate with Scientific Officers, Research Officers, and other staff at HKGI
  • Collaborate with research members of Partnering Centres and service providers for data acquisition
  • Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers

 

Requirements:

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Senior Research Assistant (Research) who possesses:

  • A master’s degree or above in Public Health, Health Economics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Psychology, Social Science, or related disciplines in medical or health sciences
  • At least 5 years of relevant research experience, ideally in health outcomes, psychosocial outcomes, and health economics studies
  • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative research
  • Knowledge of using SPSS
  • Research experience in genomic medicine would be an advantage
  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis of large and complex datasets with strong skills in statistical software (e.g. STATA, R)
  • Experience in drafting reports and manuscripts in health and social care science
  • Experience in drafting grant applications would be an advantage
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese)
  • Strong analytical ability, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team

Remuneration:
Successful candidate will be offered attractive remuneration and be appointed on an initial two-year contract (subject to mutual agreement for contract renewal).

Genomic Analyst

Reporting to Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage algorithms and pipelines for analysing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data in the Scientific Branch
  • Design protocols for genomic analysis and data management for projects under the theme of “Genomics & Precision Health” of the Hong Kong Genome Project
  • Assist genome curators in the Scientific Branch with their daily genomic analytic operations, including optimising and streamlining analytic pipelines for variant interpretation and visualisation for clinical applications
  • Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers

 

Requirements:

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Genomic Analyst who possesses:

  • A master’s degree or above in genomics, computer science, bioinformatics or related disciplines
  • At least 3 years’ experience in analysing whole genome sequencing datasets
  • Familiarity with publicly available human genomic resources, e.g. NCBI, Ensembl, ClinVar, UCSC and other open-source resources
  • Proficiency in working in Unix/Linux environment; formal training and experience with coding (e.g. Python, Perl, R)
  • Familiarity with variant calling from short read datasets, including copy number variant and structural variant
  • Experience in the analysis of cancer genomes, single-cell sequencing and long-read sequencing data would be an advantage
  • Experience in NGS analytic pipeline management would be an advantage

Medical Technologist / Associate Medical Technologist

Medical Technologist Reports to Lead Scientist (Genome Diagnostics and Precision Health)
Associate Medical Technologist Reports to the Medical Technologist

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily and routine laboratory operations, equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Process and analyse clinical specimens by molecular testing methods following standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Extract DNA/RNA from clinical tissue samples (e.g. whole blood, buccal swab, saliva, tumour, and normal tissues) and perform cell culture work
  • Conduct quality control (QC), library preparation and operate next / third generation sequencing systems, laboratory equipment and analysers
  • Assist in implementing QC, documentation, internal audit and external quality assurance programmes to meet the accreditation standards
  • Aid in developing new protocols and evaluating new sequencing technologies
  • Participate in research and development activities
  • Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers

 

Additional Duties for Medical Technologist

  • Monitor laboratory daily operations, workload, quality, and quantity for HKGP
  • Supervise and train AMT in research and development
  • Evaluate and develop methodologies in cell culture, conventional and molecular cytogenetics and molecular genetic tests
  • Assist in preparing SOPs, evaluating method and instrument and developing next/third-generation sequencing technology
  • Coordinate with service providers for alignment
Requirements:

Associate Medical Technologist

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences, biochemistry, biology or equivalent
  • Certificate of Registration (MLT Part I) and a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board, Hong Kong (MLT Board)
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in genetic research laboratory or medical laboratories with provision of genetic testing
  • Preferably with 2 years of working experience in short/long-read sequencing (QC and preliminary data analysis) and quality management systems (e.g. developing SOPs and operation manuals)

 

Medical Technologist

  • Master’s degree in biological sciences, laboratory sciences, or related disciplines
  • Certificate of Registration (MLT Part I) and valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board, Hong Kong (MLT Board)
  • Preferably at least 3 years of relevant experience in an accredited medical laboratory with provision of conventional cytogenetics and molecular genetic testing
  • Preferably with 3 years of working experience in short/long-read sequencing (QC and data analysis) and quality management systems (e.g. developing SOPs and operation manuals)

Manager (Corporate Communications)

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications, the incumbent will perform the following responsibilities to enhance HKGI’s brand awareness and foster public understanding of genomic medicine by planning and implementing a wide range of publicity initiatives:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce high-quality corporate publications and multimedia content, such as annual reports, leaflets, videos and branding items, while collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders to manage the entire production process from creative concept to layout and printing
  • Plan and organise corporate publicity activities, events and visits, ensuring smooth implementation through effective management of budget, schedule, logistics and post-event follow-ups
  • Formulate and implement HKGI’s publicity plan and develop corporate messages
  • Manage HKGI’s social media platform by developing engaging posts and monitoring performance to enhance HKGI’s online presence
  • Oversee SEO and the content/design of HKGI website
  • Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers

 

Requirements:

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Manager (Corporate Communications) who possesses:

 

  • A university degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related disciplines
  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience; experience in sizable public organisations will be an advantage
  • Solid experience and knowledge in design, printing and video production, including vendor management and budget control
  • Proven track record in planning and organising corporate and community events, visits, and publicity campaigns targeting both the general public and professionals
  • Solid experience in managing social media platforms such as LinkedIn
  • Hands-on experience with web content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, with experience in website revamping as an added advantage
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese
  • A proactive, self-driven attitude with the ability to work independently under pressure in a dynamic setting
