Research Officer (Population Genetics)

The Research Officer (Population Genetics) supports and drives research projects related to population genetics.  This position is responsible for evaluating, developing, and implementing Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) and post-GWAS analysis in different cohorts under the Hong Kong Genome Project (HKGP).  The incumbent will also work closely with sequencing service providers to ensure high-quality genomic data for research output.

 

Reporting to the Lead Scientist II (Health Informatics), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage data analysis for population genetics research projects independently
  • Conduct Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) on whole genome sequencing (WGS) to identify genetic variants associated with common and rare diseases under the HKGP
  • Evaluate and adapt existing public polygenic risk score (PRS) models for common and rare diseases
  • Develop novel Chinese-specific PRS models utilising HKGP’s GWAS findings
  • Conduct Mendelian Randomisation (MR) analysis utilising HKGP’s GWAS findings to infer causal relationships between genetic variants, risk factors, and disease outcomes
  • Evaluate and improve quality control processes for genomic data generated in collaboration with HKGI’s major sequencing service providers to ensure high quality of data for downstream research
  • Contribute to various research and operational projects
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by senior officers
Requirements:

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Research Officer (Population Genetics) who possesses:

  • A master’s degree or above in bioinformatics, biomedical science, genetic science, or a related discipline
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in bioinformatics and sequencing data analysis
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals or conferences in the field of genetics or bioinformatics
  • Familiarity with sequencing technologies and data formats from major sequencing service providers
  • Proficiency in coding for large data analysis with a strong understanding of statistical methods in genetics
  • Demonstrated experience with advanced genetic analyses, including GWAS, PRS development/evaluation, and MR
  • Exposure to various types of sequencing data is considered a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic research environment

Assistant Manager (Communications and Public Affairs)

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications, the incumbent will perform the following responsibilities to enhance HKGI’s brand awareness and foster public understanding of genomic medicine by planning and implementing a wide range of publicity initiatives.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Implement publicity projects to publicise HKGI’s latest development and achievements, such as press briefings, corporate events and visits, as well as production of corporate publications and videos
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the mass media and other key stakeholders
  • Conduct daily monitoring of local and international news and industry updates across social media platforms
  • Draft, edit and translate bilingual communication messages and materials, such as press releases, media Q&A, speeches, advertorials, social media posts, corporate presentations, website and annual reports
  • Identify appropriate channels or platforms to engage target audiences and promote HKGI’s work; follow through the projects from planning and procurement to successful delivery
  • Assist in preparing meeting materials for Committee and Board meetings
  • Support the Corporate Communications team’s administrative operations
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by senior officers

 

Requirements:

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Assistant Manager (Communications and Public Affairs) who possesses:

  • A university degree in Communications, Languages, Public Relations (PR), Public Administration or related disciplines
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience in corporate communications or related fields, including at least 3 years in an in-house role. Experience gained in a sizable public organisation will be an advantage
  • In-depth knowledge of public affairs, a strong media network, and solid experience in media relations and issue management

IT Support Engineer

With HKGI’s continuous expansion, an additional IT Support Engineer is required to provide timely and effective front-line IT solutions to our internal users.  The incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide front-line IT support, addressing user inquiries via calls and emails
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and IT services issues
  • Support Windows desktops, Microsoft Office, business applications, and peripheral devices
  • Manage user account and access control
  • Maintain IT equipment, servers, and basic network connectivity
  • Assist with server troubleshooting and Active Directory administration
  • Track and update support requests in the service desk system
  • Manage hardware and software inventories
  • Collaborate with other members of the IT Helpdesk team on technical support and system implementation
  • Adhere to IT security policies and procedures to protect sensitive information
  • Perform any other duties assigned by senior officer

 

Requirements:

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of IT Support Engineer who possesses:

  • A diploma or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields

System Analyst (Enterprise Architecture) - Expired

The System Analyst is a key technical expert responsible for designing the IT enterprise architecture for HKGI.  This includes setting up and maintaining Kubernetes clusters, enhancing CI/CD pipelines, and integrating and maintaining HKGI’s clinical applications and bioinformatics platform.  This role combines hands-on development, system architecture, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure HKGI’s platforms are scalable, secure, and resilient.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager (Projects and Operations), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain the architecture framework for IT systems and applications to support operations with partnering centres and institutes
  • Set up and manage Kubernetes (k8s) clusters for clinical applications and databases across on-premises and hybrid-cloud environments, ensuring robust security and effective patch management, and enhance CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and code scanning
  • Implement Single Sign-On solution and monitoring tools for system logs oversight
  • Collaborate with in-house and external development teams to migrate applications to k8s clusters, troubleshoot issues, and co-develop migration strategies
  • Evaluate emerging technologies to improve workflows, present insights to colleagues and senior management, and enforce corporate governance and industry best practices
  • Engage with project management team and clinical stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure timely project delivery
  • Support daily operations of HKGP, including post-release testing and on-site support when necessary
  • Provide technical advice to the team and mentor junior staff

Requirements:

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of System Analyst (Enterprise Architecture) who possesses:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, with at least 6 years of experience in application and/or backend development
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (k8s), Helm charts configuration commands (e.g. kubectl, helm), and CI/CD tools (e.g. GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins)
  • Proficiency in application deployment, network and security configurations, credential, management, along with scripting skills in a Linux environment
  • Proven experience in setting up and integrating code quality and vulnerability scanning tools
  • Strong understanding of system design principles for large-scale IT systems
  • Proven experience in a sizable organisation with supervisory responsibilities
  • A mature, self-motivated attitude with a determination to succeed
