IT Support Engineer
With HKGI’s continuous expansion, an additional IT Support Engineer is required to provide timely and effective front-line IT solutions to our internal users. The incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide front-line IT support, addressing user inquiries via calls, Microsoft Teams and emails
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and IT services issues
- Support Windows desktops, Microsoft Office, business applications, and peripheral devices
- Manage user account and access control
- Maintain IT equipment, servers, and basic network connectivity
- Assist with server troubleshooting and Active Directory administration
- Track and update support requests in the service desk system
- Manage hardware and software inventories
- Collaborate with other members of the Enterprise IT Services team on technical support and system implementation
- Adhere to IT security policies and procedures to protect sensitive information
- Perform any other duties assigned by senior officer
Requirements:
We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of IT Support Engineer who possesses:
- A diploma or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields
- At least 2 years of experience in IT support
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Windows environments and Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune
- Strong problem-solving skills, a sense of responsibility, and a team-oriented attitude
- Availability to work on weekends as needed
Preferred Certifications and Skills:

Analyst Programmer (Data Management)
The Analyst Programmer (Data Management) supports the System Analyst (Data Management) in HKGI’s data warehouse project, focusing on the design, development and maintenance of a new data warehouse platform for managing bioinformatic and genomic data, which aims to consolidate data from various existing platforms. The incumbent will assist in refining platform architecture, optimising performance, and ensuring scalability.
Reporting to the System Analyst (Data Management), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in implementing a robust, scalable and high-performance data storage and management system for genomic data
- Assist in developing and documenting system architecture, data models, data flow diagrams, and system interfaces
- Contribute to identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks within the data storage and retrieval pipeline
- Assist in developing and implementing a scalability plan to accommodate the rapid growth of genomic data
- Prepare documentation and conduct various testing activities throughout the whole SDLC cycle (e.g. unit tests, SIT, UAT, load tests, regression tests) to ensure all functional and operational requirements are met
- Support routine operational activities to maintain system efficiency and reliability
- Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Analyst Programmer (Data Management) who possesses:
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, with at least 4 years of relevant working experience
- Strong understanding of data warehouse principles, data modelling, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes
- Experience with various storage technologies, including object storage (e.g., S3), parallel file systems, and databases (e.g., Clickhouse, MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS)
- Experience with cloud-based data technologies, as well as data security and access control mechanisms
- Familiarity with Linux system administration, including shell scripting, system monitoring, and performance tuning
- Knowledge of containerisation using Docker and deploying on the Kubernetes platform
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipeline and related DevOps technologies
- Proficiency in at least one of these programming languages: Java, Python
- A keen focus on platform-level optimisation to enhance performance and scalability

Analyst Programmer (Data Integration)
The Analyst Programmer (Data Integration) supports the System Analyst (Data Integration) in integrating HKGI’s data warehouse platform with internal systems and external partners. The incumbent assists in implementing and maintaining efficient data flows between HKGI’s data warehouse and other systems while ensuring data quality, security, and compliance.
Reporting to the System Analyst (Data Integration), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain APIs and data transfer mechanisms (e.g., RESTful APIs, AWS S3 Upload) for seamless data exchange with external systems
- Assist in designing and implementing strategies for data replication, failover, and disaster recovery, leveraging clustering technologies (e.g., Kubernetes) and load balancing
- Assist in establishing and enforcing data security policies and measures, including access controls, encryption (data at rest and in transit), and audit logging, to protect sensitive genomic and clinical data
- Analyse system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimisations to enhance data throughput, response times, and overall system efficiency
- Implement and monitor data validation processes, lineage tracking, and quality control checks to ensure data accuracy, consistency and reliability
- Assist in the development of data integration solutions for various genomics data types (e.g., FASTQ, BAM, VCF, short-reads, long-reads) and clinical data (FHIR, HL7)

Requirements:

- Experience implementing robust and resilient data transfer protocols (e.g., AWS S3, HTTPS, SFTP) in a hybrid cloud and on-premises environment

Research Assistant (Genome Curation)
Reporting to Research Officer (Genome Curation), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and managing genome curation platform for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data
- Support the research officer in developing processes or models for variant prioritisation
- Receive training in tertiary analysis for whole genome sequencing (WGS) data, which includes (a) variant filtering and prioritisation (b) classification, and (c) selection of reportable variants
- Assist in data mining, curation, and interpretation of genome sequencing results according to current international standards
- Generate plots and figures to assist in the presentation of results
- Conduct basic literature reviews, research, and perform related clerical duties
- Participate in research and development activities
- Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers
Requirements:
We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Research Assistant (Genome Curation) who possesses:
- A bachelor’s degree or above in Biomedical Sciences, Genetic Sciences, Health Sciences, Medical Statistics, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Basic knowledge and experience in research studies, with a willingness to receive on-the-job training.
- Familiarity with NGS technology and its data formats is preferred.
- Proficiency in coding in Python or R, and data-wrangling skills such as extracting information from VCF files and manipulating data structures are desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Cantonese (spoken) and English (written); strong written English is an advantage
- Strong teamwork and collaboration mindset.
- Experience in genome research resulting in publications in international peer-reviewed journals is preferred.
- Knowledge or experience in the analysis of cancer genomes, single-cell sequencing, and long-read sequencing data is a plus.
- Experience in patient care, clinical research, and the use of digital health technologies in healthcare settings would be advantageous.
