Senior Research Officer (Laboratory Sciences)

Report to Lead Scientist I/Single-Cell Sequencing and Multi-omics Scientist, the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight in long-read and short-read Whole Genome Sequencing, including sample processing, library preparation, quality assurance, and sequencing, with an emphasis on long-read approaches (Rapid and Ultra-Long)
  • Participate in multi-omics projects from planning through execution and analysis, integrating various omics data types to enhance analysis
  • Conduct research and development aimed at optimising laboratory procedures and methodologies
  • Evaluate and adopt new techniques and instruments, while developing and refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure best practices in laboratory operations
  • Collaborate with senior officers in laboratory management, training and mentoring junior research and laboratory staff for compliance with laboratory standards and best practices
  • Assist in quality control, documentation, internal audits, and external quality assurance programmes aimed at meeting accreditation standards
  • Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers
Requirements:

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Senior Research Officer (Laboratory Sciences) who possesses:

 

  • A master’s degree or above in biological sciences, laboratory sciences, or related disciplines
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in next-generation sequencing and multi-omics technologies
  • Strong background in both long-read and short-read sequencing methodologies, with hands-on experience in library preparation and quality control
  • Experience in integrating multi-omics data and a solid understanding of related tools and analysis techniques
  • Preferably, experience in genome research resulting in publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Preferably, experience in quality management systems, such as quality assurance, development of SOP and manuals
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams consisting of clinicians, bioinformaticians and laboratory scientists
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience mentoring junior staff in a laboratory setting
  • Good written Chinese and English and fluency in spoken Cantonese; strong written English is an advantage
  • Good communication skills and a team mindset

Remuneration:
Successful candidate will be offered attractive remuneration and be appointed on an initial two-year contract (subject to mutual agreement for contract renewal).

Medical Technologist / Associate Medical Technologist

Associate Medical Technologist Reports to the Medical Technologist
Medical Technologist Reports to Lead Scientist (Genome Diagnostics and Precision Health)

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily and routine laboratory operations, equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Process and analyse clinical specimens by molecular testing methods following standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Extract DNA/RNA from clinical tissue samples (e.g., whole blood, buccal swab, saliva, tumour, and normal tissues) and perform cell culture work
  • Conduct quality control (QC), library preparation and operate next / third generation sequencing systems, laboratory equipment and analysers
  • Assist in implementing QC, documentation, internal audit and external quality assurance programmes to meet the accreditation standards
  • Aid in developing new protocols and evaluating new sequencing technologies
  • Participate in research and development activities
  • Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers

 

Additional Duties for Medical Technologist

  • Monitor laboratory daily operations, workload, quality, and quantity for HKGP
  • Supervise and train AMT in research and development
  • Evaluate and develop methodologies in cell culture, conventional and molecular cytogenetics and molecular genetic tests
  • Assist in preparing SOPs, evaluating method and instrument and developing next/third-generation sequencing technology
  • Coordinate with service providers for alignment

Associate Medical Technologist

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences, biochemistry, biology or equivalent
  • Certificate of Registration (MLT Part I) and a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board, Hong Kong (MLT Board)
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in genetic research laboratory or medical laboratories with provision of genetic testing
  • Preferably with 2 years of working experience in short/long-read sequencing (QC and preliminary data analysis) and quality management systems (e.g. developing SOPs and operation manuals)

 

Medical Technologist

  • Master’s degree in biological sciences, laboratory sciences, or related disciplines
  • Certificate of Registration (MLT Part I) and valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board, Hong Kong (MLT Board)
  • Preferably at least 3 years of relevant experience in an accredited medical laboratory with provision of conventional cytogenetics and molecular genetic testing
  • Preferably with 3 years of working experience in short/long-read sequencing (QC and data analysis) and quality management systems (e.g. developing SOPs and operation manuals)

Analyst Programmer - Expired

Report to the Manager (Product Delivery), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:

 

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain and optimise CI/CD pipeline and assist in on-ramping of other applications
  • Standardise and manage source code versioning in collaboration with internal and external development teams
  • Develop in-house applications to digitalise and optimise existing workflows, including CI/CD processes, e-forms, and systems for integrating with other healthcare applications and databases
  • Create enterprise architecture designs that are secure, scalable, reliable and robust, adhering to industry best practices
  • Develop and maintain technical specifications, release notes and documentation
  • Establish and regularly update guidelines and best practices for software development and security-related activities
  • Provide ongoing support and maintenance for applications to ensure optimal performance
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration tests, analyse vulnerabilities, and recommend remediation strategies

Requirements:

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Analyst Programmer who possesses

 

  • At least 4 years of hands-on experience in programming and security-related activities, with proficiency in at least two of the following areas:
    • Full stack programming with sizable teams using standardised or automated testing
    • Designing or implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab
    • Handling security-related issues from design, code and operational perspectives
    • Designing cloud or enterprise-level systems
  • Experience in using recognised security scanners and diagnostic tools, such as ZAP, Semgrep, Nessus, Wireshark, Postman, Checkmarx, Dynatrace
  • Familiarity with programming, system design, and security best practices, as well as common attack patterns, resolutions, and vulnerability databases such as OWASP, CVE, CWE, HKCERT
  • Demonstrated maturity, self-motivation, and a strong determination to succeed
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Previous experience as a DevSecOps engineer or in developing healthcare applications will be preferred
