System Analyst (Application Development)
The System Analyst (Application Development) is a key technical expert responsible for the end-to-end development, integration, and maintenance of HKGI’s clinical applications and bioinformatics platform. This role combines hands-on development, system architecture, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure our platforms are scalable, secure, and resilient.
Reporting to the Senior Manager (Projects and Operations), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain clinical applications and build internal and external APIs to extract data and integrate with applications across on-premises and hybrid-cloud platforms
- Enhance the bioinformatics platform for scalability, high availability, and security
- Implement and manage automated CI/CD pipeline tools to streamline workflows related to patient recruitment, analysis requests, and statistics reporting
- Oversee the administration of critical application databases, managing system access control and operator accounts to uphold security standards
- Collaborate closely with the project management team and key stakeholders (doctors, nurses, and clinical professionals) to gather user requirements and ensure the timely delivery of projects
- Support the daily operations of Hong Kong Genome Project (HKGP), including post-release testing and on-site support when necessary
- Create automatically generated reports for statistical analysis and application monitoring
- Develop and execute manual and automated test cases to ensure system quality and reliability, supported with relevant documentation
- Provide technical advice to the team and mentor junior staff
- Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers
Requirements:
We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of System Analyst (Application Development) who possesses:
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
- At least 6 years of post-graduate experience in application and/or backend development
- Hands-on experience with frontend and backend API development with React.js, Node.js, PHP, Java, Springboot, Nginx, and messaging systems such as RabbitMQ
- Solid experience in database administration and schema designs with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, or equivalent
- Proficiency in scripting capabilities in Linux environment
- Proven hands-on experience with Docker containers, K8s, and CI/CD tools (e.g. GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins, or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of system design principles for building and maintaining large-scale systems
- Proven experience working in a sizable organisation with supervisory experience
- A mature, self-motivated attitude with a determination to succeed
- Good organisation and communication skills, and a team-oriented mindset
- Ability to work independently with effective time management skills
Preferred Attributes:
- Prior experiences with mission-critical systems, particularly in a clinical or healthcare setting
- Familiarity with automated testing tools for code quality and vulnerability scanning (e.g. JMeter, Jest/Mocha, Selenium, and Semgrep)
- Knowledge of public cloud services and API gateways
- Proficiency with project management tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Trello)

Senior Research Assistant (Genome Curation)
Reporting to Research Officer (Genome Curation), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Perform tertiary analysis for whole genome sequencing (WGS) data in accordance with international guidelines
- Mentor and train junior staff in tertiary analysis methodologies, including variant filtering, classification, and selection of reportable variants
- Conduct cohort analysis to identify trends and correlations within genomic data, contributing to the understanding of population variations and disease associations
- Prepare and present findings in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, effectively communicating complex data insights to a diverse range of stakeholders
- Assist in the development and management of the genome curation platform for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to support ongoing research projects and inform best practices in genome curation
- Collaborate with the research officer to develop and refine processes and models for variant prioritisation
- Conduct advanced data mining, curation, and interpretation of genome sequencing results, according to current international standards
- Participate in research and development activities, contributing to the advancement of genomic research practices
- Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers
Requirements:
We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Senior Research Assistant (Genome Curation) who possesses:
- A bachelor’s degree or above in Biomedical Sciences, Genetic Sciences, Health Sciences, Medical Statistics, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline
- At least 2 years of experience in genomic research or a related area, with a strong focus on tertiary analysis of NGS data and familiarity with NGS technology
- Proficiency in Python or R, with data-wrangling skills for manipulating VCF files
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for complex data interpretation
- Excellent communication skills in Cantonese (spoken) and English (written), with the ability to effectively present findings, especially in MDT settings
- A collaborative mindset and strong teamwork abilities
- Preferred experience in genome research with publications in peer-reviewed journals, and knowledge of cancer genome analysis, single-cell sequencing, or long-read sequencing data
- Experience in patient care, clinical research, and digital health technologies is advantageous

Manager (Corporate Communications)
Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications, the incumbent will perform the following responsibilities to enhance HKGI’s brand awareness and foster public understanding of genomic medicine by planning and implementing a wide range of publicity initiatives.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop high-quality bilingual corporate messages and write-ups to promote the vision, mission, and achievements of HKGI
- Produce corporate publications and multimedia content, such as annual reports, leaflets, videos, and branding items, managing the entire production process from creative concept to printing and production
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the quality and accuracy of publicity materials
- Raise HKGI’s brand awareness by managing its online publicity channels, including the corporate website and social media platforms, from developing engaging posts and visuals to monitoring performance and impact
- Plan and organise corporate events and visits, ensuring smooth implementation through effective management of budget, schedule, logistics, and post-event follow-ups

System Analyst (Data Integration)
The System Analyst (Data Integration) will focus on integrating HKGI’s data lakehouse platform with internal systems and external partners. The incumbent will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining efficient data flows between HKGI’s data lakehouse and other systems while ensuring data quality, security, and compliance. The incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain APIs and data transfer mechanisms (e.g., RESTful APIs, AWS S3 Upload) for seamless data exchange with external systems
- Design and implement strategies for data replication, failover, and disaster recovery to ensure high availability and data durability, leveraging clustering technologies (e.g., Kubernetes) and load balancing
- Establish and enforce data security policies, including access controls, encryption (data at rest and in transit), and audit logging, to protect sensitive genomic and clinical data
- Analyse system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimisations to enhance data throughput, response times, and overall system efficiency
- Implement and monitor data validation processes, lineage tracking, and quality control checks to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of genomics data throughout its lifecycle
- Collaborate with bioinformaticians, software engineers, and stakeholders to design and implement data integration solutions for various genomics data types (e.g., FASTQ, BAM, VCF, short-reads, long-reads) and clinical data (FHIR, HL7)

We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of System Analyst (Data Integration) who possesses:
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- At least 6 years of relevant hands-on working experience in data integration, software engineering, or a similar role
- Solid experience and deep understanding of data integration patterns within a hybrid environment
- Proven experience in the full lifecycle of RESTful API development, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
- Strong understanding and solid experience of API security best practices, including implementing authentication (e.g., OAuth, JWT), authorisation, encryption, and rate limiting
- Expertise in data serialisation formats (e.g., JSON) and API documentation tools (e.g., OpenAPI)
- Solid experience in implementing robust and resilient data transfer protocols (e.g., SFTP, HTTPS, AWS S3)
- Hands-on experience in developing microservices that interacts with enterprise messaging systems (e.g., Apache Kafka and RabbitMQ)
- Proven track record in designing and implementing data storage and management systems, demonstrating deep expertise in data modelling, database design (PostgreSQL, MySQL and MongoDB), and data warehousing principles
- Proficiency in at least one of these programming languages: NodeJS, Java, Go, or C++
- Hands-on experience with clustering technologies (e.g., Kubernetes) and good understanding of load balancing principles
Preferred Attributes
- Experience with healthcare interoperability standards, particularly FHIR and HL7.
- Knowledge of genomics data formats (e.g., FASTQ, BAM, VCF) and standards (e.g., CRAM)
- Prior experience in genomics is a plus
