The Research Officer (Population Genetics) supports and drives research projects related to population genetics. This position is responsible for evaluating, developing, and implementing Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) and post-GWAS analysis in different cohorts under the Hong Kong Genome Project (HKGP). The incumbent will also work closely with sequencing service providers to ensure high-quality genomic data for research output.
Reporting to the Lead Scientist II (Health Informatics), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Manage data analysis for population genetics research projects independently
- Conduct Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) on whole genome sequencing (WGS) to identify genetic variants associated with common and rare diseases under the HKGP
- Evaluate and adapt existing public polygenic risk score (PRS) models for common and rare diseases
- Develop novel Chinese-specific PRS models utilising HKGP’s GWAS findings
- Conduct Mendelian Randomisation (MR) analysis utilising HKGP’s GWAS findings to infer causal relationships between genetic variants, risk factors, and disease outcomes
- Evaluate and improve quality control processes for genomic data generated in collaboration with HKGI’s major sequencing service providers to ensure high quality of data for downstream research
- Contribute to various research and operational projects
- Perform any other duties as assigned by senior officers
